Many years into my own trauma recovery journey, I confronted my limiting belief that I could not become a therapist due to my own personal history of trauma. I decided to pursue a career change from managing tech businesses to going back to school for mental health counseling. Through Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I had made significant progress in creating safety and peace within my internal world, which was transforming my parenting life and relationships.
IFS therapy proved to be a powerful tool for understanding my internal world. Using this framework, I came to understand my “parts”: the managers who tried to keep my firefighters in check, causing anxiety; the firefighters who triggered avoidance, reactivity, and disconnection in my relationships; and the exiles, the younger parts that carried the burdens of my past hurts and disappointments. This experience ignited a passion to use my regained energy, which had been used to manage my trauma symptoms, to help others heal from complex trauma and attachment wounds.
Through IFS, I learned to compassionately befriend these “parts” of myself, understand their roles, and help them release their burdens. This process freed up energy for rest, creativity, and connection, not just within myself but also in my relationships with my children and family.
My experience healing from complex PTSD as a queer woman and mother of three children inspired me to become a therapist who is accessible and affirming. I am committed to providing trauma-informed and person-centered mental healthcare to all people and chose a practice where I can accept most insurance plans, including Medicaid/Molina.
I am passionate about helping clients of all ages create peace and harmony in their internal worlds. I work with individuals, couples, and families to address mental health concerns, family dynamics, relationship issues, and work-life stress.
Specifically, I enjoy helping couples and families navigate attachment issues and conflicts to build stronger connections.
I currently practice under clinical supervision as an Agency Affiliated Counselor at Rule & Associates where I accept Provider One/Apple Health/Monlina. I see children, adults, families and couples in Washington state in person and via telehealth. You can request an appointment with me through my practice website at https://www.therapyportal.com/p/ruleassociates/appointments/availability/.
I do not accept booking requests for counseling/therapy or client communications of any kind via this website, my personal/photography email or phone number. All therapy related communication and inquiries must be made through the Rule & Associates’ website, email or phone number. Thank you for understanding.
