Cutting Down a Christmas Tree in Ashland: We are real Oregonians now!

When I was a kid my granddad used to take me each Christ out into the north Louisiana woods around where we lived to pick out and cut down a tree for Christmas. We would take it home in the back of his truck and hang LOTS of tinsel on it, and lights and ornaments, including ones I made and brought home from school. Looking back those Louisiana pines, don’t make the best tress, they kind of look like a teenage Charlie Brown Christmas tree, but I never noticed or minded.

This year with the kids being 3 and 4, they have been really excited about getting a Christmas tree and someone told me you could cut your own at in certain places in the National Forest here in Ashland. SO we went to the ranger station (behind Super 8 on the south side of Ashland) and bought a permit and got a map to know where we could cut from. You can find info here if you are looking to cut your own Christmas tree in the Rogue Valley. The best part was that the permit costs only FIVE BUCKS!! And you can cut a tree up to 12 feet tall, and up to 5 per family. Talk about a deal! Anyways, we drove up Dead Indian Road about 26 miles, stopped on the side of the road and hiked around in the snow until we found the perfect tree. The kids had so much fun, and we even brought hot coco that we picked up form a gas station and listened to Christmas music on the drive up. I highly recommend anyone in the area to do this, I just can’t explain what a joy it was for all of us.

I also think this would make a wonderful family photo session for Christmas, New Year’s or just because!

Here is a little video my hubby, Brian, made on his iPhone of the trip. 🙂

Ashland Maternity Photography: Julie

Today I got to spend some fun time visiting with my friend Julie. She is one of the fabulous mommas behind  Cute As A Button, a line of hair accessories that I LOVE for kids and adults.  She is also pregnant with TWINS! I am so excited for them to get here, but since they were wanting to come a bit too early she is on bed rest. So today we stuck close to the couch and did a few pregnancy photos  of her beautiful baby belly, ate and talked. Here is the lovely Julie!

Ashland, Oregon Family Photography: Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you all had as good of a Thanksgiving as I did! Family, friends and food were enjoyed by everyone in my house. 🙂 Today I met the Chang family for a shoot in Ashland. Their extended family was getting together and they took the opportunity to get a good family photo. I love that they were not afraid to forget the stress of matching and just show up and look good! (Because they all look so great!). Chang family: If you would like these on Facebook, let me know, by emailing me or leaving a comment and I will be happy to! And for everyone else: It’s not too late to get a great family photo for Christmas!

Friends

Today my post is one of thankfulness for my friend Amanda. Amanda contacted me after I ran a Facebook ad targeting the Ashland and Talent Oregon area at the beginning of the year for my photography business. We moved here form Louisiana last December and I knew no one, but decided to take the winter off to spend with the kids and adjust. Then after only 3 months my hubby got laid off the job we moved here for. I was devastated, knowing that I could not easily pick up and start shooting full time again not knowing anyone here. I ran the ad to try and get get some Facebook fans from this area and hopefully start my business back up here in the beautiful Southern Oregon area. Instead of clients, I met a great friend. Amanda is one of those rare woman you meet once you are grown that you click with. It usually isn’t so easy to find as an adult. Thank Amanda for being a good friend, and for an awesome girls night out complete with Twilight and ice cream! Here is Amanda and her family. She is a photographer too so of course she never gets in pictures. I was glad to change that for her last week.

The Lewis Family

This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the Lewis kids at Lithia park in Ashland for some family photos and some time playing in the leaves. They were so much fun to hang out with! Here are some favorites from their session.

To book a shoot in the leaves, the snow or anything else email me at Crystal@CrystalGarcia.com!
